Chess was originally played by 4 players!

Chess is a board game played by two players today. It is enjoyed throughout the world today, but did you know that it was invented in India? Chess was invented in the time of the Mauryans and Guptas. It was called ‘chaturanga’(chatur-four) and (anga-army). It had 64 white and black squares, 2 dice, and pieces which were called respectively king, chief minister (queen), soldier, elephant (rook or castle), horse (knight), camel (bishop), and chariot (doesn’t exist today). Now here is how it spread to the rest of the world from India. An Indian king in the Middle Ages sent a chess board to the Persian king (Persia was a kingdom that comprised most of Iran, some parts of Afghanistan and Tajikistan). The Persians called it ‘shatranja’. It was then taken from Persia by Arab traders to the Muslim kingdoms of Spain where it evolved into the chess of today!
