Honey of the Pharaohs, "Paintings" of the Basilica & Pizza of the Peasants



You know that honey buried with Egyptian mummies is still edible?!
Egyptian mummies were buried with grave goods like utensils, gold, silver, ornaments etc. In one such Egyptian tomb a jar of still edible honey was discovered. The reason why it is still edible is that honey is extremely acidic killing any bacteria trying to grow in it.

Guess what paintings on the wall of St. Peter’s Basilica aren’t paintings?
St. Peter’s Basilica is a church located in Vatican City. The “paintings” cover 10,000 m2 of the church walls. But these “paintings” aren’t paintings! The paintings on the walls were destroyed by humidity and mold and had to be replaced with mosaics.




Did you know pizzas were eaten by only the poor in Italy?
All of you must have eaten pizza. Today pizza is eaten only by well to do people but in Italy in the 15th and 16th century pizza was eaten by only the poor. It was also affordable as it didn’t need many ingredients and could easily be made. The colors in the flag of Italy were also inspired by pizza toppings.
