Answers:
1-a
North America- Horses evolved in North America and spread to
Europe, Africa and Asia on the land bridge that was formed between Alaska and
Siberia. 10,000 years later the horses in North America went extinct. Horses
were reintroduced to the Americas when the Europeans arrived.
2-b
Peach basket- Dr James Naismith, a Canadian physicist was
interested in sports physiology. He taught at Springfield College,
Massachusetts as a physical education teacher. He wanted to start a new game to
engage the school’s rugby and football players during the winter. He found a
peach basket in the janitor’s cupboard and hung it on a railing 10 ft above the
floor. But there was a problem every time the players shot the ball into the
basket, they had to get the basket down to remove the ball. So, Dr Naismith
decided to cut a hole in the peach basket so, the ball would come down on its
own. This is how basketball was invented.
3-a
Dinosaurs- Many modern birds of today like herons, cassowary
birds and ostriches evolved from dinosaurs. Birds like herons look a little
like a Coelophysis, ostriches look like a struthiomimus and a cassowary bird
looks a little like a corthyosaurus. These are a few examples of how birds
could have evolved from dinosaurs.
4-c
Yes, but the fish couldn’t swim and became terrestrial
animals- Fishes living in the Silurian and Devonian periods started evolving
with flipper like legs. They then started crawling on land and later developed
into reptiles and later evolved into dinosaurs. The fish then became terrestrial
animals and started living on land.
5-b
Cockroaches- Cockroaches are a menace even today. They eat
and scavenge for food in homes restaurants etc. They would have been a menace
to the Stone- Agers too as cockroaches have been on the face of the Earth since
the dinosaurs’ time.
