Sergeant Stubby

 

A dog named Stubby was given the post of sergeant!


In WWI a dog named Stubby was given the post of sergeant. He was the dog with the most medals and the only one to be made sergeant! He also participated in 17 battles and saved his regiment of troops from a surprise mustard gas ambush! Once he caught a German soldier by his pants and held him until the American troops found him!

 

In the 1850s people in London believed that cholera spread because of bad-smelling air!


Cholera is a disease that spreads in polluted water and causes diarrhoea. However, did you know that in the 1850s people in London believed that cholera spread because of bad-smelling air?! This theory was eventually changed by John Snow, the father of epidemiology.

 

Doctors in Victorian era England, prescribed beards to keep men healthy!


Around 1850 doctors encouraged men to wear or grow beards to ward off illnesses like sore throats as they ‘purified the air’!
